Research
At present I am the research coordinator of the Discourse and Literacy Research Group, at ILTEC (Institute for Theoretical and Computational Linguistics)
Research objectives
The group is developing research within a functionalist framework, as
all the researchers describe and explain language phenomena in terms of
their use in verbal interaction, focusing specifically on discourse (as
product and process), on literacy (as the ability to use language to
read, write, listen and speak, and the ability to respond to and
understand the world), and on the relation between these two research
areas and how different discursive communities, practices and domains
ask for specific literacies: scientific, visual, digital, etc.. The
research group is one of the three research groups at ILTEC.

Writing Development
Part of the research being developed by myself and other members of the research group is on writing development in basic school in Portugal. The results of this research are currently being presented at international congresses. See the project's webpage.
