Notes for Contributors Authors should send one hard copy of their manuscript and a pdf file. Manuscripts are to be styled as follows:
Contributors should submit three copies of their manuscript. Submitted papers will normally be read by two referees. The names(s) of the author(s) should not appear on the paper itself and, as far as possible, the author(s) should not be identifiable from the references in the text or the acknowledgements. Title on a separate sheet, together with the name(s) of the author(s) and the name(s) and address(es) of their institutions. Keep the title as short as you can. Suggest a running title, to be printed at the top of right-hand pages, not exceeding 46 characters (including spaces). Manuscripts (abstract, text, footnotes, acknowledgements, figure captions, and references) should be typed double-spaced, with the type no smaller than 12 points (12pt) throughout the manuscript. Abstract. An abstract of 50-200 words should follow the title page on a separate sheet. Headings. Three levels of headings are used. (i) Main headings, centred on the line. Precede each main heading by a number, e.g. 1.,2. etc. Each heading announces a chapter or main part of the paper. (ii) Subheadings, announcing parts of chapters, centred on the line. Use subnumbers for each subheading, e.g.1.1., 1.2., etc. (iii) Paragraph headings, where necessary (at the left side of the line). Number each paragraph heading, e.g.1.1.1., 1.1.2., etc. Footnotes. Footnotes should be avoived unless absolutely necessary and be as brief as possible. They must be listed as a separate sheet at the end of the manuscript and not at the bottom of individual pages. They should be indicated in the text by a superscript number following any punctuation mark. Acknowledgements should be summarized at the end of the text, before the references. References. The references section should contain all the references cited in the text. In text, the reference is indicated with the year of publication in parentheses after the author's name. If more than one article by the same author from the same year is quoted, a, b, etc. should follow the year. For more than two authors, quote all names in the first instance, and then use the first author et al. subsequently. When more than one reference is cited within one set of parentheses, order chronologically with the oldest reference first. For example: (Peterson & Barney, 1952; Klatt, 1979; Ohala, 1984). In the references section, do not abbreviate journal or book titles. Avoid references containing unpublished material and/or material which is very difficult to obtain. Below you will find some examples: note the sparse use of capitals. (i) For articles in periodicals. Klatt, D. H. (1979) Speech perception: a model of acoustic-phonetic analysis and lexical access, Journal of Phonetics, 12, 279-312. Peterson, G. & Barney, H. (1952) Control methods used in a study of vowels, Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 24(2), 175-184. Note: for multiple references by the same author(s) list oldest reference first. For multiple authors with one author repeated in several citations, list in alphabetical order by first author. (ii) For articles in a book containing a collection of articles. Ohala, M. (1984) The machine as an addressee: when paralinguistics fails. In Proceedings of the tenth international congress of phonetic sciences (M. P. R. Van den Broecke & A. Cohen, editors), pp. 326-330. Dordrecht-Cinnaminson: Foris Publications. (iii) For a book by one or more authors. Chomsky, N. & Halle, M. (1968) The sound pattern of English. New York: Harper and Row. Figures and Tables. Figures and Tables should be submitted on separate sheets. Their approximate position in the text should be indicated. Tables should be kept small, and should contain clear indications as to what data are represented. Specify what the rows and columns of the table stand for. Each table should be typed double-spaced on and should be given a heading, e.g. Table I, in roman numerals, followed by a legend, followed by the table itself. The legends of figures should be typed on a separate sheet of paper indexed by figure number in Arabic numerals, followed by the caption. Examples. Number all the examples. Include the example numbers in parentheses, e.g. (4) a. John likes Mary. Any examples in footnotes should be numbered with small roman numerals, also in parentheses. Tree diagrams and other simple diagrams should be numbered like other examples. Examples not in English must have aligned interlinear glosses and an idiomatic translation. |

One copy of the final version should be submitted, accompanied by a computer disk with an electronic copy of the article (if possible, in Microsoft Word format plus a pdf file). When there is more than one author, the issue and the offprints will be sent to the first-named author. |
